The Essential Series: Why You Need to Retire Your Ski Jacket
So far we’ve covered three essentials:
This week we’ll cover an item that is important, but it’s even more important this time of year. It’s the topcoat. To clarify, there is a difference between a topcoat and peacoat. So what is the difference?
- Topcoat - a wool jacket that hits at or slightly above the knee.
- Peacoat - a wool jacket that ends slightly below the hip and is double breasted in nature
Ever guy needs a topcoat. When it comes to this essential, don’t skimp. A good topcoat is made of wool, cashmere or a wool/cashmere blend. One made of these fabrics tends to run on the pricier side but the quality is well worth it. In regards to style, the double breasted topcoat is making a strong case this fall. The double breasted jacket is such a dapper look as well as a way to stand out from the crowd. Make sure the jacket is slim and tailored so you don’t look like you’re wearing a “hand me down” from your dad. Most importantly, unless you’re in a blizzard, save the ski jacket for the next black diamond you see.
Topcoats I recommend are as follows:
