My Latest “Purchase”: A lesson on quality

Are some items worth a higher price tag? Over thanksgiving weekend I was tearing through an old drawer of scarves and watch caps in preparation for an upcoming ski trip. I had no idea what awaited me. After pulling out several items, there it was in all it’s glory - A Pendleton Woolen Mills scarf. Honestly, the guy who found a copy of Scarface in the Wal Mart $5 DVD bin couldn’t have been more happy than me. Scarf in hand, I rushed down the hall to show the rest of my family. My dad informed me that this was his scarf that he purchased in the late 1980s. After a little begging and arm twisting, my dad was happy to pass it on to me.

The above story is a perfect example of why quality matters. It isn’t always the case, but this scarf is an example of the price tag reflecting the quality. It started out as a scarf and after 20+ years it’s still around. And now, it’s more than a scarf - It’s an heirloom. That’s the wonderful thing about quality pieces, they not only last long enough to tell a story but to be involved in several people’s stories, too. So, if your debating whether to shell out some extra money for a certain item, go for it. Because maybe one day, you’ll have the chance to teach someone a lesson on quality, the same lesson my dad taught me.  Now if I can just sweet talk him into giving me his Dior cashmere lined leather gloves…
