Chinos

Well, it’s Wednesday again so it’s time for the second installment of the Essentials series. This essential got it’s start in the 1860’s when the British Military made it an official part of their uniform. Now it’s gone mainstream and over the last several years every label/designer from GAP to Band of Outsiders is doing their take on them. The great thing about chinos is they’re so unbelievably easy to dress up or down. In fact, a good pair can take you straight from the 9 to 5 into the weekend. I’m a huge fan of chinos on the weekend. They’re casual but they give this vibe that you took a little extra time to not reach for your default pair of jeans. Now, the most important part about chinos is the fit. So many guys get the fit wrong and they end up looking like they’re trying to get picked up as an extra for the next MC Hammer music video. Here’s a tip about fit: They should fit nice and trim and slightly taper from the knee to the ankle. Keep that in mind and you can’t go wrong. Now that you have the fit nailed, get out their and show people that jeans and sweatpants aren’t the only thing guys wear on the weekend.

Side Note: Chinos don’t have to be a khaki color. In fact, with fall upon us reach for a merlot color or a mustard color. You’ll set yourself apart, which is what personal style is all about.

Here are some chinos I endorse at several different price points:

You’ll find several different colors on all of the sites listed above.
